Putnam County Master Gardeners
Once February arrives, we can really lay our plans to work for a successful gardening year. Putnam County is considered a ZONE 7 for growing. When we get warm temperatures, we want to start gardening, but remember to be mindful of frosts that can destroy all your hard work!
-
Look at your seed packs- if you are starting seeds indoors, mid February will be 12 weeks before our average last frost date!
-
Have you heard of winter sowing? It's a method of starting seeds outdoors in covered containers to let them germinate with nature instead of starting seeds indoors.
-
Bare root plants are available in many garden centers or online providers.
-
Prepare to prune existing fruit trees and rose bushes.
