In the Garden: October Tasks

Fall is the time to perform any of the following tasks in Zone 7

  • Order Spring bulbs- flowers such as tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and more need to be planted now to enjoy in spring. Be sure to get them in the ground before frost!

  • Save seeds from any annuals you want to plant again in the spring. Annuals are a wonderful way to add vibrancy to your garden, collect seeds from your favorite varieties by putting them in a paper bag and letting them dry completely.

  • Plant trees and shrubs, since dormant plants will be under less stress.

  • Plant cover crops in raised beds like hairy vetch to help fix nitrogen in your soil for a better garden next season.

  • Plant garlic- softneck varieties prefer warmer climates, while hardneck varieties do well in colder climates
